TranBelt provides many kinds of coatings (backings) for timing belts. Each coating is designed for a spec
ific purpose:
- To change friction (more grip or less slip)
- To improve wear resistance (longer life)
- To adjust thickness
These coatings are used in conveying, positioning, material handling, and other applications.
1. Nylon Fabric Coating (PAZ, PAR, NFT, NFB)
The polyamide (nylon) fabric coating reduces friction.
It also lowers noise and is ideal for conveyor systems where products may stop and accumulate.
Available with antistatic option (black).
- PAZ / NFT: Fabric on the tooth side → reduces friction and noise.
- PAR / NFB: Fabric on the back side → lowers friction.
- PAZ + PAR / NFT + NFB: Fabric on both sides.
Friction values:
- Polyurethane on steel: µ = 0.7
- PAZ-PAR on steel: µ = 0.35
- Polyurethane on aluminum: µ = 0.8
- PAZ-PAR on aluminum: µ = 0.45
2. Polyurethane (PU) Coating
PU coatings provide the highest wear resistance.
They are widely used in woodworking, ceramics, and glass.
FDA-compliant PU is available for food industry use.
Examples of PU backings / hardness (Shore A):
- Antistatic PU belt (black)
- 85 Shore A standard
- Supergrip, 55 Shore A
- 45 / 85 Shore A types
- Herringbone (Fishbone), 85 Shore A
- Red PU, 55 / 60 / 65 Shore A
- Ribbed V-poly backing, 45 / 85 Shore A
- Supergrip white, 50 / 55 Shore A
- Red Linatex, 40 Shore A
3. Rubber Coating
Rubber (natural or synthetic) has high friction and strong temperature resistance.
It is used in the paper industry, ceramics, wood processing, glass, labeling and packaging machines.
Examples of Rubber backings / hardness (Shore A):
- Linatex 40 Shore A
- Rubber 50 / 55 / 60 Shore A
- Antistatic PU belt, 60 / 70 / 75 Shore A (special option)
- Rubber 35 / 40 / 45 / 50 / 60 Shore A
- APL rubber, 55 / 65 Shore A
4. PVC Coating
PVC has high friction and strong acid resistance.
It is common in paper, ceramics, woodworking, glass, labeling and packaging.
FDA-approved PVC is available for food industry applications.
Examples of PVC backings / hardness (Shore A):
- PVC 45 Shore A
- Supergrip PVC, 50 Shore A
5. Key Factors When Choosing a Coating
Friction:
- Use high friction for strong grip.
- Use low friction (like PAZ, PAR) for accumulation conveyors.
- Friction changes with load and the material being conveyed.
Back-bending:
- Not every coating is suitable for drives where the belt bends backwards.
- Consult with engineering if back-bending is required.
Pulley Diameter:
- Belt flexibility depends on backing thickness and temperature.
- Each coating type has its own pulley diameter limits (see specifications).
6. Final Simple Summary
| Coating Type | Main Benefit | Typical Uses |
|---|---|---|
| Nylon fabric | Low friction, less noise, antistatic | Conveyors, accumulation systems |
| Polyurethane | Highest wear resistance, food-safe | Wood, ceramics, glass, food machinery |
| Rubber | High grip, heat resistant | Paper, packaging, labeling |
| PVC | High grip, acid resistant, food-safe | Food, packaging, labeling |
